The town of Lachhmangarh did not have facilities for higher education till about1965. The town being backward, students in and around this area had to go to distant places for higher studies or were compelled to give up their desire for it. Recognizing this problem, our founder, Philanthropist Late Seth Shri Bhagwandas ji Todi decided to establish an institution for higher education. The first step in this direction was establishment of Shri Bhagwasdas Todi Charitable Trust, a public trust, with the objective of imparting education. It was a Red Letter Day for Lachhmangarh when Seth Shri Bhagwandas ji Todi laid the foundation of our College. Work of construction of the College was completed at a rapid pace and it was inaugurated by the then State Chief Minister, Shri Mohan Lal Sukhadia on 8thJuly, 1965.
The College is situated on northern link road of National Highway No. 11 leading to the town and gives a distinct impression with its double storey building and staff quarters on one side, office complex, B.Ed. College, historical Johra and temple on the other. The College campus is spread over approximate several acres of land. One of the objectives of the College is to create an atmosphere for imparting education to girls of the region. Today, all the girl candidates studying at UG level are exempted from tuition fees. In addition, books are issued to meritorious students from our own Book Bank. ‘Women Wing’ of the college organizes various academic and extra-curricular activities to ensure their all round development, not limited to academics. These facilities along with strict discipline have increased the strength of girls numbering around 1000 in the present session in comparison to 02 girls at the time of starting the college in 1965.
Since its establishment, all the three faculties (Arts, Science and Commerce) are growing on a year on year basis and have established a good reputation in the area. The number of students has increased dramatically to almost 2500 students in the current session as compared to 100 students in the session of 1965 - 66. Presently, there are six PG Departments in Arts and Science faculty. All this has been made possible by the trust without taking any private donations, other than from the Todi family.
In order to achieve the goal of all round personality development of the students, the College organizes a number of extra-curricular activities such as Debate Competitions, Quiz Competitions, State Level Essay Competitions, State Level G.K. Competitions, Cultural Programmes, Founder’s Day Celebration etc. regularly. Besides this, the College also organizes Inter-House and Inter-college Tournaments every year. A good number of our players are selected to play in the University teams. Arjun Awardee Suresh Mishra and Ashok Chhakar are two names worth mentioning in this respect as they have brought name and fame to the college by representing India in Asian Games.
The College is recognized by UGC under 2F and 12B. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has re-accredited our college with ‘B’ Grade with CGPA of 2.62 on four point scale in the 2nd cycle of accreditation.
There are 02 NSS Units and 01 NCC Unit functional in the college and our volunteers and cadets perform very well in the State and National level competitions. A Number of Cadets clear ‘C’ Certificate examination every year.
In addition, a study centre of India Gandhi National Open University (2312) was established in the year 1995 in the College. Presently, about 100 students are registered at this centre for various programmes.
Students receive various scholarships issued by Centre and State Governments. Besides, the College also provides financial assistance to poor, needy and outstanding players.
The trustees of the College are associated with several social and charitable institutions and are focused on the welfare of society.
